Dead Horse Ranch State Park Improvements

Arizona State Parks awarded Quest a contract to provide complete utility and park facility upgrades and renovations at Dead Horse Ranch State Park. These improvements, completed in January 2004 at a final construction cost of $3,639,000, significantly increased recreation, hiking, fishing, birding, picnic and camping facility capacities.

Dead Horse Ranch State Park is a key component of the Arizona State Park system and is located along the Verde River in Cottonwood, Arizona. This sprawling 423 acre recreational area is open year round and provides accessible trails for bikers, hikers and horseback riding, picnic areas, fishing opportunities and camping facilities. The improvements made by Quest have resulted in reduced water loss in the existing lake, increased revenue sources for the Park and increased overall capacity of the Park facilities. The Park remained open throughout all phases of construction while Quest took precautions to protect the existing vegetation, wildlife, Park employees and Park users.

Park recreation improvements included the construction of two complete new lakes with over eleven acres of water surface area as well as the reconstruction of the existing lake. Each lake was sealed by a system of geosynthetic clay liner to prevent water loss through percolation into the soil. Additionally, Quest constructed ten new Ramada structures, wheelchair accessible fishing bridges and platforms, fish habitat, hiking trails and paths and an aluminum boat dock system. Finishing touches included street and parking improvements, drainage structures, pavement markings, traffic signage, access gates and general site grading.

Extensive utility service upgrades accompanied the recreation improvements, including a complete new electric utility distribution and service system, potable water well pump and booster pump system, steel potable water storage tank, three new sewer lift station systems, four miles of water line distribution system providing service to 126 campsites, two miles of gravity sewer lines and one mile of sewer force mains.

"I would like to thank you and your staff for an outstanding performance on the construction work at Dead Horse. Your company did a nice job to put the park together and the Park manager has expressed his ongratulations to you and your staff.”
