Williams Gateway Airport Northwest Area Fire Protection System
To support ongoing growth at the Williams Gateway Airport (WGA), the City of Mesa awarded Quest a construction contract for the Northwest Area Fire Protection System.
The major features of the fire protection system included constructing a fire pump station consisting of three 480,000 gallon steel water storage tanks, six 3,500 gallon-per-minute NFPA approved fire pumps and controllers, one maintenance (jockey) pump, mechanical piping, complete electrical and instrumentation system, chlorine system, remote telemetry unit (RTU) system and a 1,750 KW standby diesel generator system. Approximately one mile of 8” to 30” underground fire line distribution main delivers water to future airport hanger facilities. In addition, completed site work included yard drainage piping and structures, sun shades, signage, site lighting, steel and masonry site security fencing and decomposed granite surfacing. All system components were tested in accordance with NFPA requirements to ensure successful start up and code compliance.
Extensive coordination with Williams Gateway Airport operations personnel and the City of Mesa allowed completion of this project on schedule in October 2004 at a final construction cost of $2,688,000.
